Programs
Bharatiyam has two focus areas of intervention: education and livelihoods. To reflect these fields, there are two main programs: Bharatiyam Vidya (education) and Bharatiyam Jeevika (livelihoods). Each program has a set of subprograms that support people, facilities, infrastructure, events, organizations, and systems at the grass roots level. All donors can either donate to the general corpus fund, or choose a particular program/subprogram that they wish to support.
Bharatiyam Vidya (education)
The literacy rate in Andhra Pradesh is 67.7% (Male: 75.6% and Female: 59.7%). which is one of the lowest rates in South India. The nation, which already has a relatively low literacy rate of 74.1%, is still far from educating the hundreds of millions of young people who still do not have adequate access to high quality education. Furthermore, this literacy rate does not account for proficiency in 3R skills: reading, writing, and arithmetic.
Education is definitely the surest and best way to address poverty in the long-term. Every child has the right to have minimum education of 15 years (10+2+3) for acquiring life skills. However, with the high dropout rate of 60%, which especially affects young girls, this right is far from being fulfilled. Even today, many students do not have access to proper career counseling, competence assessment, and awareness of emerging opportunities and threats ahead. Consequently, they are not able to properly prepare for them. Most of the government schools are not able to meet minimum standards of excellence. Unfortunately in this context, many of the bright rural student dropouts who have the potential to compete with the best in the state/country are not able to do so.
Bharatiyam's goal in Vidya (education) is to ensure that all young students have access to high-quality education that fulfills their highest potential through systematic school programs, adequate facilities, trained teachers, and a strong perspective on opportunities and possibilities ahead.

Bharatiyam Jeevika (livelihoods)
In the industrialized and globalized age, many traditional occupations are being replaced by mass manufactured goods from all over the world. This is causing these older livelihoods to shrink, and those who depend on them are not able to earn a decent income. While the nation is trying to emerge out of poverty, these individuals, who were formerly financially self-sustaining, are now spiraling down into poverty. For example, jobs in handweaving, traditional subsistence agriculture, and handicrafts are diminishing in India's economy. They are not remunerative, wages are sometimes lower than the minimum wage, and the number of days of employment are low.
Bharatiyam Jeevika's intervention involves collecting and providing access to funds and markets for these struggling livelihoods, beginning with weaving communities in coastal and dry-land clusters in Andhra Pradesh. The goal is to foster collectivization and empower these fragmented industries such that the producers earn a greater portion of retail price of their goods. Bharatiyam plans to alleviate gaps in value chains through proper leads and professional support. These efforts would support poor families across a portfolio of livelihoods lead a decent quality of life.
In areas where certain livelihoods cannot be resurrected, Bharatiyam will initiate trade skills development programs to support people's transition to new opportunities.
